To mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices energy efficiency is a key area where significant overheads can be reduced as well as carbon emissions.
Energy efficiency begins with making changes at an individual level. Everyone within an organisation has a role to play in saving energy and these small changes can make a significant difference to your business. The basis of a good energy efficiency campaign is knowing how much, where and when you use energy in your business. Detailed measurement combined with a little investigative work can provide insight into where savings can be made. Through this initial baseline review EHS Projects can help by project managing and delivering energy initiatives to produce both rapid and sustained return on investment.
Building Measures
Many workplaces have inefficient lighting and poorly controlled heating/cooling systems. Often some small changes can make considerable differences to energy costs with very short and in some cases even immediate pay back periods. Our usual service for our clients is to do an assessment of current equipment and energy usage, resulting in a report on potential savings and then carry out installations of new equipment or energy saving measures. Often a simple control system for lighting or heating or the insertion of insulation can be fitted for moderate cost and pay for itself within its first two years of operation. Our service is client focussed and business focussed, we only recommend or carry out changes that make good financial sense.
Process Energy Efficiency
For many businesses particularly in the manufacturing sector the processes have high inherent energy demands. Many processes were designed back when the issues of energy security and costs were very different to taoday and carbon emissions were not considered an issue. With the currently increasing energy prices and carbon reduction commitments many processes demand a fundamental re-think or adjustment to remain viable and cost effective. We offer tailored solutions and improvements that save energy costs and take into account all other production factors. There is little point in saving small money on energy use if the process quality is reduced rendering substandard product or less efficient use of raw materials. With this is mind we work with our clients to assist and help them get the most of their processes.

1. Costs
Energy costs are significantly higher today than they were three to four years ago. Investing more in energy efficiency means that the financial returns are greater than ever.
2. Climate change
Taking action to substantially reduce our carbon emissions is important for our future shared prosperity. Energy use is a major source of carbon emissions and improvements in energy efficiency deliver immediate and lasting carbon cuts. They can be substantial too – often delivering around 10 to 20 per cent reductions with little investment.
3. Legislation
The case for tackling energy efficiency is likely continue to grow stronger through legislation too. The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) includes a provision that aims to prevent organisations from claiming carbon emissions savings based simply on purchasing renewable energy from energy suppliers.
Energy efficiency is perhaps the most effective way to reduce carbon emissions in the foreseeable future. Find out how your organisation can cut energy costs by working in partnership with EHS Projects.
